Our star P.S. Kaguya is searching for a love that'll last in a virtual landscape full of many opportunities, but will she encounter the one she is looking for?
Kaguya and Fernando Osorio brought me into an early stage production they were working on for a song called "2AM".
They shared sentiment of early 2000s chat rooms and 90s K-Pop aesthetics for a narrative that had Kaguya seeking love in a digital dating landscape.
Traversing bad matches and creeps online in hopes of finding "the one".
With the help of her virtual dating dashboard and a few tools up her sleeve, she ventures into unknown virtual territory.
Having had Fernando and Kaguya shoot the video content in 4K while in New York we created a shared drive folder where I received the raw video footage before color grading and use that as the base ground to set up my FX shots. We isolated the demand for visual effects based on a couple of needs, a title shot, the core main UI engagement shots, and an end credit reel.
Using Adobe Illustrator, After Effects, and Photoshop I crafted several title lockups, and devised a dating chat room UI based on early 2000s virtual dating options that I named "Horizon Online". Regrouping several times in virtual meetings we critiqued and applied adjustments to our effects as new video edits came in from the director.

Discussing with Kaguya we had a couple of aspects to incorporate into this virtual dating UI effect.
We wanted traditional aspects of dating platforms like name, gender, ethnicity, and biography fields. As well as pulling and reinventing elements from the 90s i.e custom chat rooms with visual elements, customizable avatars with clothing and hair colors, recent activity, inbox notifications, and room suggestions.
Kaguyas secret tool to avoid wasting her time searching for love is her C.T.T.C an acronym for Cut To The Chase. A virtual UI widget that calculates the potentiality of all chat room users and their compatibility with herself.
