Outline

Muse is a interactive music video site concept designed to help commuters reduce wait times on their trains.

Overview

Muse is a website concept that features local artists around the bay area to spark interests in homegrown culture. This site was themed around commuting and is personified in a literal way through these music videos. Specifically on the BART because that is how many people like myself get around the bay. Many people day dream out the window, watch videos, read books, or play on their phone to avoid long commutes. I took these gestures and designed music videos around these behavioral traits.

How is it different?

There are only a few dedicated web spaces for 360 video steaming content. The main one being Veer.tv. and well ... it doesn't have the biggest music video focus or audience. Muse has a music video heavy focus unlike Veer.tv or Youtube.com.

Inspiration

Inspired by  Ouchhh studios POETIC AI Exhibition in Paris. I wanted to originally produce a video package for Post Malone's Beer Bongs and Bentley's album. Due to legality we compromised with producing 360 videos for local artists in the San Francisco Bay Area. Allowing for no legal issues and local representation of talent.

Am I Solving a Problem?

Yes I am, in the form of at least aid in the problem of long boring crowded commutes. I came to the conclusion that the majority of people listen to music during their commutes from point A to B rather it be car, walking, or train there's always people with their ear buds in. So making Bart commutes more enjoyable through interactive music videos around the foundation of a virtual Bart cart sounded pretty unique and fun to me.

Who's the Talent?

I went out on social media and posted about my project vaguely to draw in the biggest interests. I talked with three musicians of various backgrounds and musical tastes. They all loved the idea. These are the musicians.

Interviews

With a focus on creating visuals I went out and interviewed various university peers, colleagues, friends, family, and even the talent about what they believe makes for great visuals at a concert or in a music video. I got many different answers for my questions retaining to this topic.

The Narratives

O$carwild

Oscar a hip hop beats producer after seeing my social media post quickly made a track. October the name of the track only has one narrative that it is about Halloween. He gave me no other insight. I pitched the idea of a train driving along a valley of physically rolling hills and covered it in Halloween icons. He loved the idea, and wanted some Halloween trops to fill the scenes so I did just that with a ghosts, machetes, scythes, jagged trees, and classic hokey masks.

Based out of Alameda Brian Sakhuja produces electronic tracks. He had a lot of tracks and requested I animate his remix of Kaskad's "Disarm You". Given the requested time code I didn't have a lot of lyrics to develop a narrative. I came up with the concept of focusing on corruption over the internet came to my mind when I thought about electronic music because it reminded me of Cyber Space. Focusing on corruption with some ideation help from Chris Gray I decided to design this cyber space around advertising and how heavily it was pushed over the web and how elderly people can be exponentially vulnerable to these kinds of ads rather it be pharmaceutical drugs with harsh side effects or male enhancements. I went for a new wave neon world look to reflect old phrase "surfing the web". I meticulously designed and animated each sign to change every second for a Los Vegas vibe because well a lot of elderly people go there. Lights in vegas draw people in just like these misleading ads draw in the elderly. Drugs listed from left to right are Lisinopril, Enbrel, and Ativan.

The band consisting of Georgie, Zach, Ethan, and James. A group of guys who make up this alternative group with a distinct beach sound. I asked Goergie and Zech what they would like to see for the visuals and they loved the idea of a beach. To distance the style form the other animations I used Cinema 4D's Sketch and Toon for the first time and came up with a great looking video featuring an abandoned beach full of toys and lounging gear. The narrative was as if someone was waking up on the train after having their face in the sun through the windows with a bad after image as if they fell asleep on a beach. With a massive cartoon sun it complements Zech's writing about feeling a fire in his soul. Ending by going into a tunnel right before the ramp up in order to convince listeners to go to their social media and listen further as a subliminal attempt at a "call to action".
